Top mobile device makers including Apple and Samsung were sued on Tuesday by GPH (Graphics Properties Holdings), which is alleging that the smartphone vendors infringed on a single graphics-related patent in their smartphones and other consumer electronics.

DotCloud adds vertical scaling to its PaaS offering

DotCloud has become the latest PaaS (platform-as-a-service) provider to add features typically associated with IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-service) offerings, this time by enabling vertical scaling, the company said Tuesday. Typically, PaaS providers allow horizontal scaling, where customers deploy code on multiple servers and add more servers as they need them, with traffic distributed across the servers.

Microsoft seizes servers in Zeus cyberfraud

(Reuters) – Microsoft Corp claimed a victory in efforts to combat online banking fraud, saying it had confiscated several servers used to steal login names and passwords, disrupting some of the world’s most sophisticated cybercrime rings.

Office Live Small Business users fret over Office 365 transition

Many companies that rely on OLSB (Office Live Small Business) for their email and website hosting are complaining that a required transition to Office 365 or to a third-party hosting provider is too complicated for them to carry out and that Microsoft could be doing more to help them out as OLSB’s closure date fast approaches.

Microsoft, Nokia will spend $24 million on university program to boost app development

Microsoft and Nokia will invest up to €18 million ($24 million) in a new mobile application development program at Finland’s Aalto University during the next three years, with the goal of helping create applications for Windows Phone, the two companies said on Monday. The program is called AppCampus and will kick off in May, at which time interested entrepreneurs can start applying for grants.
