Security firms disable the second Kelihos botnet

A group of malware experts from security companies Kaspersky Lab, CrowdStrike, Dell SecureWorks, and the Honeynet Project, have worked together to disable the second version of the Kelihos botnet, which is significantly bigger than the one shut down by Microsoft and its partners in September 2011.

Open source code libraries suffer from vulnerabilities

A study of how 31 popular open source code libraries were downloaded over the past 12 months found that more than a third of the 1,261 versions of these libraries had a known vulnerability and about a quarter of the downloads were tainted. The study was undertaken by Aspect Security, which evaluates software for vulnerabilities, with Sonatype, a firm that provides a central repository housing more than 300,000 libraries...
Microsoft, Nokia will spend $24 million on university program to boost app development

Microsoft and Nokia will invest up to €18 million ($24 million) in a new mobile application development program at Finland’s Aalto University during the next three years, with the goal of helping create applications for Windows Phone, the two companies said on Monday. The program is called AppCampus and will kick off in May, at which time interested entrepreneurs can start applying for grants.
